Coaching in Existential Analysis and Logotherapy:

Being human means always being
able to be different.

Plenty is being shaken up at the moment. But what does it do to you when disruption simply appears and does not go away? There’s only one thing to do: you take responsibility. Now you decide what’s important in life. Because at some point, when the crisis is over, real life will start again and you want to do something now.

As a coach, my aim is to help you feel autonomous, to help  you determine your own life and actions. I will engage with you, try to encourage creativity and initiative, reveal character strengths and develop plans with you on how to proceed in life. Because you want to regain and expand your ability to act and your authority over your own life wherever possible.

[ Sound knowledge ]

Having trained as a psychotherapeutic counsellor and completed additional studies in logotherapy and existential analysis in Germany and Belgium, I support people in shaping their lives and in situations of crisis and conflict. I use the tools of existential analysis in my approach to structuring processes, psychotherapeutic counselling and support. This allows me to respond to your individual needs and to understand the processes happening within you.

[ That's what it's all about ]

That is what the counselling sessions and workshops I offer are about: dealing with the crisis, with the limitations, with the lack of perspective. At the same time, being able to live in a modern, individualised, digitalised society with all its demands, and being able to have the confidence: you, too, have the right to be happy.

Finding meaning in your life now and realising your ambitions to lead a good life in the future are the focus of my work with you.

This departure into a new, unknown world can also involve discomfort. Because some of the things you have missed out can no longer be made up for. Nevertheless, you want to take control of shaping your own life and future in the best way possible.

How this search for meaning is given shape is crucial. In a logotherapeutic understanding, purpose is “the best possibility against the background of reality”, It is therefore not about a general meaning of life, but about your very specific and unique purpose in your specific situation.

[ The choice is yours ]

According to Viktor Frankl, everyone is free to act upon the realities of life. The coaching I offer prepares you to embark on a journey towards your own self in order to have analogue, genuine experiences: to improve your self-image, to recognise your shrouded values, to reflect on and expand the scope of your own experience. Building on this, one can explore what is desired for the future, NOW. It helps to simply set out on the path, and I will guide you as you start this journey.

[ About me ]

People take centre stage.

I have always been international: after studying art and design, I began my career in the 1980s as a trend researcher in Paris. In the following decades, I expanded my activities at the interface of society, media and markets, especially in Hamburg and Weimar / Germany and later in Zurich / Switzerland. In the 1990s, I joined Kansei Engineering in Japan and wrote my doctoral thesis there. With Kansei Philosophy, I returned to the roots of Japanese filosophy and cultural work to rediscover the essence of the human spirit and use of it as a source of inspiration for the interaction between the real and digital worlds. With a further focus on creative processes, I wrote the Resign Thinking Workbook, the English translation entitled Break Out was published in 2022. I am a certified Psychological Councellor HP, completed my training in Existential Analysis an Logotherapy at the Hamburg Academy and a Master of Advanced Studies in Existential Councelling at the University of Leuven, Belgium.

[Think and act for yourself]

Resign Thinking is the deepening and expansion of the well-known creative method Design Thinking.

Design Thinking tries to develop projects that transcend fixed structures. Instead of following certain specific pre-defined steps in a project, it combines a methodological approach, agile experimental interpretation processes, brainstorming, prototyping and evaluation. In Design Thinking, experiences as a member of a team lead to success.

Break Out

A workbook that will change your life.

You want to move forward. Think and act on your own. Take responsibility. You feel that something has to change. But what? How do you want to change your world, and are you able to? What do you need to do this? And what will you have to leave behind to achieve your goals?

This workbook will help you to find your own personal, crea- tive way forward – to forge ahead with Resign Thinking. Your path will be disruptive and take you into new worlds. With the worksheets in this book, you will recognise your limits – and exceed them.

[Individual skills]

Resign Thinking starts on a deeper level: Here you, as an individual, are the focus – there may not be a specific project, a defined team. Resign Thinking is based on your own individual skills and creativity. How can you use your attributes to achieve your goals, rather than someone else’s? How can you best tap your own potential? How will you shape your future?

Creative Thinking

With Resign Thinking you will awaken your intrinsic creativity. Creative thinking and acting are skills you can learn. Make the most of your potential and get creative – because your creative self is an even more inspired version of yourself.

About the author

Jacqueline Otten has been an expert in innovation processes for more than 30 years. She began her career as a trend forecaster in Paris and successfully expanded her activities at the cutting edge of society, media and markets in the following decades.

The Dutch author deals with questions like what directions behaviour will take tomorrow and which paths will people choose after the disruption we are currently facing. She is regarded as a pioneer in the area of implementing digitalisation.

The central idea of the Resign Thinking method she has developed – namely to allow new things without immediately having mental roadblocks – originated during her long‐term collaborations with students and start‐ups in Germany and Switzerland. With them, she experienced motivation, concentration and a willingness to work towards a better future, even if obstacles stand in the way.

Jacqueline Otten compiled this workbook for the makers of tomorrow to provide them with guidance for their new ideas and concepts.
